Will Richardson Video

This video make me do a lot of thinking, and I firmly agree with all of what Will Richardson is saying.  In this video he states that when people say that our schools need to do "better" what they really mean is increase test scores, and have teachers teach to the test. There is a huge difference between test prep and learning. Students can get test prep from online resources, so why do they need to be in school if this is all that teachers are going to "teach" them? I wholeheartedly agree with the idea that teachers should not be teaching to the test, I do not think that students should have to take test such as the MCAS, I just do not think that they do any good for students in the long run.  Will Richardson makes a good point in the video when he talks about the fact that students will "learn" what the teachers are teaching them for the test, but they will forget the information soon after taking the test. This is the way it has been happening for a lot of years, and it is just not doing anything beneficial for our educational system.
Our educational system has not changed much in the last 125 years, but our society has changed drastically. We have so much new technology in the world today that they did not have even 30 years ago, yet along 125 years. Why are schools still stuck in the same routine when our world has changed so much?

  1. why do schools continue to be "stuck in the past?" Can MCAS and integrating technology co-exist?
