Reflection on Khan Academy
This video started out as a great introduction to functions but then went into this kind of strange example where the presenter used words instead of math symbols. He used himself as the function and then used food as an input, which would output math videos. But then he went into this other explanation of if he put poison into the function it would equal death, but then he crossed it out and moved on. The presenter realized and explained that it may not have been that helpful, and apologized for any confusion he may have caused. But I am just not understanding why he would have published this video to begin with? It seemed to me like he realized that what he was doing made no sense, so I do not understand why he did not make a new video instead of publishing one that is of little use for at least half of the 9 minutes. I think he went completely off topic and spent most of the video doing an explanation of something that a student would not have any use for. I hope that this type of thing does not happen in every video.
When I clicked on the green "practice this concept" button it went straight to functions in graphs, which the video I watched had nothing to do with. If I had watched all four function videos I may have learned how to do the functions in graphs, but I only watched the introduction video. I think it would be more helpful for students and teachers if the practice page correlated directly to what was on the video. The video I watched really did not help me at all to understand how to do anything on the practice page.
I am hoping that the video I watched is not the norm on this website and that most of the videos are more useful. I think that this website could be a valuable resource for teachers and students. I think students would benefit from being able to use the videos at home for a refresher or reteach of the material that they had already been taught in the classroom by the teacher. I do not think this is something that I would use in my classroom to teach my students, but for students to use at home I think it would be great.

Tiffany...interesting experience. Maybe you can try another oe to see if you have similar frustration. This does show the importance of teachers trying out web sites before assigning them.

Tiffany I felt the same way! He went into something very confusing and off topic for several minutes of the video I watched, too. Also, the practice had nothing to do with the video I watched!
